Lejeune MCJROTC defeats Lake Region Shooting Sports

Shooting their highest score of the season Lejeune MCJROTC defeated Lake Region Shooting Sports 1098 to 1038 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Lejeune MCJROTC finishes the regular season in second place overall and first place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 7 - 0 record. Lejeune MCJROTC was led by, Jeremy Acezedo who shot a 281. The remaining contributing members were Hunter Uebelacker, Nathan Lerczak, and Alex Pickens. Lejeune MCJROTC is from Camp Lejeune, NC, and is coached by MGySgt James Gardiner.

Lake Region Shooting Sports finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. They finishes the regular season in seventh place overall and second place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Lake Region Shooting Sports was led by, Jacob Vaagen who shot a 272. The remaining contributing members were Cassandra Christensen, Hannah Vaagen, and Casia Steinhaus. Lake Region Shooting Sports is from Devils Lake, ND, and is coached by Rick Jorgenson.

Both teams will advance to their respective conference's title game. Lejeune MCJROTC will take on Smith Station MCJROTC for the Marine Corps JROTC conference title. Lake Region Shooting Sports will take on Warrenton Rifles for the Junior Rifle Club conference title. These games are scheduled to begin December 2nd.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
