Earl Warren AFJROTC Upsets Humboldt Sharpshooters

Earl Warren AFJROTC upset Humboldt Sharpshooters 939 to 938 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Earl Warren AFJROTC was able to win despite averaging 9 points lower than Humboldt Sharpshooters coming into this game.

Earl Warren AFJROTC finishes the regular season in second place within their 'Air Force Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Earl Warren AFJROTC was led by, Vincent Ayala who shot a 241. The remaining contributing members were Nathan Gauthier, Fabian Gonzalez, and Devon West. Earl Warren AFJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by Kevin Keaney.

Snapping a two game win streak Humboldt Sharpshooters finished the season with a 3 - 4 record. They finishes the season in sixth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Humboldt Sharpshooters was led by, Mya Dissing who shot a 270. The remaining contributing members were Zoe Dissing, Skyler Plucker, and Reese Gerlach. Humboldt Sharpshooters is from Hartford, SD, and is coached by Eric Dissing.

Earl Warren AFJROTC will advance to the Air Force Conference Title Game. They will take on Bellevue West AFJROTC for that title. The game is scheduled to begin December 2nd.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
