Mauldin NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Warren Central MCJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season Mauldin NJROTC edged out Warren Central MCJROTC 1052 to 1044 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Mauldin NJROTC finishes the regular season in fifth place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 4 - 3 record. Mauldin NJROTC was led by, Charlotte Welsh who shot a 271. The remaining contributing members were Gabe Wentworth, Savannah Easterly, and Trinaty Noble. Mauldin NJROTC is from Mauldin, SC, and is coached by CDR Denny Shelton.

Snapping a two game win streak Warren Central MCJROTC finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record. They finishes the season in ninth place overall and third place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Warren Central MCJROTC was led by, Malachi Line who shot a 267. The remaining contributing members were Cooper Williams, Marcus Redd, and Aberim Gamble. Warren Central MCJROTC is from Indianapolis, IN, and is coached by Juan Anorga.

Mauldin NJROTC will advance to the Navy JROTC Conference Title Game. They will take on Onate NJROTC for that title. This game is scheduled to begin December 2nd.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
