Shawnee Mission North NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Joliet West AJROTC
Shawnee Mission North NJROTC edged out Joliet West AJROTC 966 to 954 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC finishes the season in seventh place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC was led by, Colin Crabtree who shot a 248. The remaining contributing members were Hope Klassen, Jacob Rogers, and Sam Lander. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC is from Shawnee Mission, KS, and is coached by Greg Ruminer.
Joliet West AJROTC finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. Joliet West AJROTC was led by, Gabriela Principe who shot a 251. The remaining contributing members were Samuel Servande, Diego Lazaro, and Angel Patino. Joliet West AJROTC is from Joliet, IL, and is coached by Benjamin White.
Next up Shawnee Mission North NJROTC will compete against Binghamton Rifle Club from Binghamton, NY. Binghamton Rifle Club currently has a 4 - 2 record. While Joliet West AJROTC will compete against Clark AFJROTC from San Antonio, TX. Clark AFJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
