Lake Houston 4-H defeats Hazel Green NJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season Lake Houston 4-H defeated Hazel Green NJROTC 963 to 909 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Lake Houston 4-H finishes the season in fifth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 4 - 2 record. Lake Houston 4-H was led by, Abigail Weed who shot a 254. The remaining contributing members were Kayla Ressler, Carissa Wallace, and Alyssa Ward. Lake Houston 4-H is from Kingwood, TX, and is coached by Steven Schammel.

Hazel Green NJROTC finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. Hazel Green NJROTC was led by, Alec Manke who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Jacob Harris, Elias Brady, and Hunter Ikard. Hazel Green NJROTC is from Hazel Green, AL, and is coached by Larry Schultz.

Next up Lake Houston 4-H will compete against Seneca Valley AJROTC from Harmony, PA. Seneca Valley AJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record. While Hazel Green NJROTC will compete against Summerville NJROTC from Summerville, SC. Summerville NJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
