Warren Central MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats Cookeville AJROTC

Warren Central MCJROTC edged out Cookeville AJROTC 995 to 993 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Warren Central MCJROTC finishes the season in twenty-first place overall and third place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 0 record. Warren Central MCJROTC was led by, Cooper Williams who shot a 255. The remaining contributing members were Mackenzie Boles, Aberiam Gamble, and Minh Huynh. Warren Central MCJROTC is from Indianapolis, IN, and is coached by Juan Anorga.

Snapping a two game win streak Cookeville AJROTC finished the season with a 2 - 4 record. Cookeville AJROTC was led by, Spencer Cupp who shot a 272. The remaining contributing members were Montanah Schopieray, Jacob Norrod, and Gracelita Felix. Cookeville AJROTC is from Cookeville, TN, and is coached by 1SG Doug Romero.

Next up Warren Central MCJROTC will compete against Blythewood AJROTC from Blythewood, SC. Blythewood AJROTC currently has a 5 - 1 record. While Cookeville AJROTC will compete against South Plantation AJROTC from Plantation, FL. South Plantation AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
