Pebble Hills NJROTC defeats Cowley County 4-H

Pebble Hills NJROTC defeated Cowley County 4-H 843 to 822 last week in the National Air Rifle League. They finished the season with a 2 - 4 record. Pebble Hills NJROTC was led by, Alejandro Tizcareno who shot a 235. The remaining contributing members were Anthony Vildosola, Issa Gutierrez, and Shazaray Labaya. Pebble Hills NJROTC is from El Paso, TX, and is coached by Anthony J. Arellano.

Cowley County 4-H finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. They finishes the season in ninth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Cowley County 4-H was led by, Emily Mill who shot a 223. The remaining contributing members were Stetson Shook, Titus Mill, and Amanda Bannon. Cowley County 4-H is from Winfield, KS, and is coached by AustinWaite.

Next up Pebble Hills NJROTC will compete against Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club from Cranston, RI. Manville Sportsman's Rod and Gun Club currently has a 2 - 4 record. While Cowley County 4-H will compete against Gallatin NJROTC from Gallatin, TN. Gallatin NJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
