Coweta Co 4-H defeats Southern Indiana Sharpshooters
Coweta Co 4-H defeated Southern Indiana Sharpshooters 900 to 855 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Coweta Co 4-H is in first place in their Division with a 1 - 0 record. Coweta Co 4-H was led by Cody Piper who shot a 237. The remaining contributing members were Kinsley Hannon, Jennifer Brinton, and Madison Dill. Coweta Co 4-H is from Senoia, GA, and is coached by Michael Piper.
Southern Indiana Sharpshooters dropped to 0 - 1 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters was led by Lane Parks who shot a 233. The remaining contributing members were Emilee Seitz, Abby Seitz, and Seth Hartwick. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters is from Jasper, IN, and is coached by Daniel Lawson.
Next up Coweta Co 4-H will compete against Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club from Fort Mill, NC. Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club currently has a 0 - 1 record. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters will compete against Versailles American Legion from Versailles, IN. Versailles American Legion currently has a 1 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
