Southern Indiana Sharpshooters defeats Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club
Southern Indiana Sharpshooters defeated Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club 750 to 596 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row, Southern Indiana Sharpshooters is in second place in their Division with a 3 - 1 record. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters was led by Seth Hartwick who shot a 223. The remaining contributing members were Lane Parks, Jonathon Thurman, and Cole Parks. Southern Indiana Sharpshooters is from Jasper, IN, and is coached by Daniel Lawson, Brad Hartwick.
Snapping a two game win streak Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club dropped to 2 - 2 on the season. They are currently in fourth place in their Division. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club was led by Josue Valverde who shot a 177. The remaining contributing members were Dylan Galiotto, Vikram Nandi, and Cristobal Huerta. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club is from San Jose, CA, and is coached by Michael Davis.
Next up Southern Indiana Sharpshooters will compete against Lake Houston 4-H from Kingwood, TX. Lake Houston 4-H currently has a 3 - 0 record. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club will compete against Versailles American Legion from Versailles, IN. Versailles American Legion currently has a 1 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
