Union Pines NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Bonanza AJROTC
Union Pines NJROTC edged out Bonanza AJROTC 1010.0 to 1007.1 in the 2023 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Union Pines NJROTC was led by Colin Ackerman who shot a 271.7. The remaining contributing members were Camden Deibel, John Koyn, and Aiden Salazar. They are from Cameron, NC, and are coached by Timothy Winn.
Union Pines NJROTC competed in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirtieth place. Within the Navy JROTC Conference they finish in sixth place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 2 record.
Thanks to their performance this season Union Pines NJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League.
Bonanza AJROTC was led by Emily Avras who shot a 264.0. The remaining contributing members were Michael Merritt III, Ashton Bartlett, and John Miranda. Bonanza AJROTC is from Las Vegas, NV, and is coached by Darren Hinze.
Bonanza AJROTC also competed in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in thirty-first place. They finished the regular season with a 2 - 4 record.
Thanks to their performance this season Bonanza AJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Distinguished Division in the 2024 National Air Rifle League.

The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
