Selma MCJROTC defeats Ridge View AJROTC
Selma MCJROTC defeated Ridge View AJROTC 1417 to 766 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, Selma MCJROTC is in first place in their Division with a 2 - 0 record. Selma MCJROTC was led by Danielle Louie who shot a 368. The remaining contributing members were Kristopher Klien, Samantha Louie, and Mia Castro. Selma MCJROTC is from Selma, CA, and is coached by Mike Romero.
Ridge View AJROTC dropped to 0 - 2 on the season. They are currently in ninth place in their Division. Ridge View AJROTC was led by Jacob Newman who shot a 263. The remaining contributing members were Jared Banks, Jillian LeRoux, and Christopher Tinneny. Ridge View AJROTC is from Columbia, SC, and is coached by Gene England.

These two teams are competing in the JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
