Clover AFJROTC Narrowly Defeats Christian County AFJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season Clover AFJROTC edged out Christian County AFJROTC 1085 to 1067 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their sixth win in a row, Clover AFJROTC is in first place in their Division with a 6 - 0 record. Clover AFJROTC was led by Kristopher Dauble who shot a 281. The remaining contributing members were Brianna Fish, Alex Rulevich, and Emily Morse . Clover AFJROTC is from Clover, SC, and is coached by SMSgt Clarence Woodham.

Snapping a four game win streak Christian County AFJROTC dropped to 4 - 1 on the season. They are currently in second place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Christian County AFJROTC was led by Anthony Marlow who shot a 277. These two teams are competing in the Air Force JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
