Lafayette Gun Club defeats Sutter Union High School
Lafayette Gun Club defeated Sutter Union High School 1626.0 to 1602.8 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Lafayette Gun Club finishes the season in third place overall and second place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Lafayette Gun Club was led by, Brandon Evans who shot a 413.0. The remaining contributing members were Matthew Stout, Victoria Koenig, and Maria Koenig. Lafayette Gun Club is from Grafton, VA, and is coached by Jason Stout.
Sutter Union High School finished the season with a 3 - 4 record. They finishes the season in fourth place overall and third place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Sutter Union High School was led by, Marissa Fedora who shot a 410.7. The remaining contributing members were Sophia Cruz, Dallas Sorensen, and Chase Ford. Sutter Union High School is from Sutter, CA, and is coached by Allen Ray Jaynes.
These two teams are competing in the Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the conference. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
