Grove City NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Wren NJROTC

Grove City NJROTC edged out Wren NJROTC 943.8 to 934.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Grove City NJROTC is in sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 1 record. Grove City NJROTC was led by, Ashton Writsel who shot a 255.5. The remaining contributing members were Darci Ringhiser, Harrison Schaefer, and Noah Snedeker. Grove City NJROTC is from Grove City, OH, and is coached by CDR Dustin Martin.

Wren NJROTC currently has a 1 - 3 record. After the loss they are in eighth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Wren NJROTC was led by, Tyler Morrison who shot a 276.0. The remaining contributing members were Cadence Whiten, Natalie Gilmore, and Gavin Driver. Wren NJROTC is from Piedmont, SC, and is coached by CDR Kevin Borden, USN (Ret).

Next up Grove City NJROTC will compete against Lejeune MCJROTC from Camp Lejeune, NC. Lejeune MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. While Wren NJROTC will compete against Eldorado NJROTC from Las Vegas, NV. Eldorado NJROTC currently has a 0 - 3 record.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
