W. H. Page NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Union Pines NJROTC

W. H. Page NJROTC edged out Union Pines NJROTC 1039.1 to 1025.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, W. H. Page NJROTC is in fourth place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 1 record. W. H. Page NJROTC was led by, Makenna Wilson who shot a 265.0. The remaining contributing members were Emilyrose Sheffield, Nicholas Waegerle, and Emma Senneville. W. H. Page NJROTC is from Greensboro, NC, and is coached by David Buchholz.

Union Pines NJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record. After the loss they are in tenth place overall and second place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Union Pines NJROTC was led by, Nathan Auman who shot a 264.7. The remaining contributing members were Braeden Conn, Conner Brady, and Zach Viburs. Union Pines NJROTC is from Cameron, and is coached by Keith Dangerfield.

Next up W. H. Page NJROTC will compete against Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i from Keaau, HI. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i currently has a 5 - 0 record. While Union Pines NJROTC has a bye week.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
