Grossmont NJROTC defeats A. C. Mosley MCJROTC
Grossmont NJROTC defeated A. C. Mosley MCJROTC 937 to 911 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. With the win, Grossmont NJROTC is in eighteenth place overall and sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 1 record. Grossmont NJROTC was led by, Summer Oraha who shot a 263. The remaining contributing members were Kloeknyaw Mweeheh, Simon Castro, and Zita Huang. Grossmont NJROTC is from El Cajon, CA, and is coached by Mark Brosnan.
A. C. Mosley MCJROTC currently has a 2 - 3 record. After the loss they are in sixth place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC was led by, Emma Hearin who shot a 264. The remaining contributing members were William Hunt-Farris, Gabriel Santos, and Belai English. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC is from Lynn Haven, FL, and is coached by Kenneth Hicks.
This coming week Grossmont NJROTC has a bye week. While A. C. Mosley MCJROTC will compete against James Madison AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. James Madison AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
