Lejeune MCJROTC defeats Northwood AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Lejeune MCJROTC defeated Northwood AJROTC 1039 to 922 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. With the win, Lejeune MCJROTC is in second place overall and first place within their 'Marine Corps Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 4 - 0 record. Lejeune MCJROTC was led by, Hunter Uebelacker who shot a 264. The remaining contributing members were Jeremy Acezedo, Nathan Lerczak, and Alex Pickens. Lejeune MCJROTC is from Camp Lejeune, NC, and is coached by MGySgt James Gardiner.
Northwood AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record. Northwood AJROTC was led by, Brooklyn Delpapa who shot a 246. The remaining contributing members were Cayce Matlock, Alyssa Caples, and Jack West. Northwood AJROTC is from Shreveport, LA, and is coached by LTC Byron Lafield.
Next up Lejeune MCJROTC will compete against Warren Central MCJROTC from Indianapolis, IN. Warren Central MCJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record. While Northwood AJROTC will compete against Pelahatchie AJROTC from Pelahatchie, MS. Pelahatchie AJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
