Binghamton Rifle Club Narrowly Defeats Shawnee Mission North NJROTC
Binghamton Rifle Club edged out Shawnee Mission North NJROTC 1008 to 988 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Binghamton Rifle Club finishes the season in nineteenth place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 5 - 2 record. Binghamton Rifle Club was led by, Simon Joyner who shot a 263. The remaining contributing members were Jonah Allen, Claudia Allen, and Jennifer Huang. Binghamton Rifle Club is from Binghamton, NY, and is coached by Peter Matwey.
Binghamton Rifle Club will advance to the postseason to compete in the Junior Rifle Club Conference Title game. They will compete against Versailles American Legion who has a 4 - 3 record. This game is scheduled for 26 November to 2 December 2018.
Snapping a two game win streak Shawnee Mission North NJROTC finished the season with a 3 - 4 record. They finishes the season in sixth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC was led by, Colin Crabtree who shot a 252. The remaining contributing members were Hope Klassen, Jacob Rogers, and Logan Lawson. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC is from Shawnee Mission, KS, and is coached by Greg Ruminer.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
