South Plantation AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club
Shooting their highest score of the season South Plantation AJROTC edged out Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club 968 to 948 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. They finished the season with a 3 - 3 record. South Plantation AJROTC was led by, Nadira Armogan who shot a 244. The remaining contributing members were Carlos Contreras, DE'Andre Serrano, and Jimmy Blanks. South Plantation AJROTC is from Plantation, FL, and is coached by 1SG Miguel A. Rodriguez.
Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club finished the season with a 0 - 6 record. They finishes the season in sixth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club was led by, Emily Macias who shot a 240. The remaining contributing members were Dylan Galiotto, Dipti Venkatesh, and Josue Valverde Ortiz. Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club is from San Jose, CA, and is coached by Michael Davis.
Next up South Plantation AJROTC will compete against Cookeville AJROTC from Cookeville, TN. Cookeville AJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record. While Santa Clara Valley Rifle Club will compete against Cactus AFJROTC from Glendale, AZ. Cactus AFJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
