North Mesquite AJROTC defeats Ridge Community AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season North Mesquite AJROTC defeated Ridge Community AJROTC 1068 to 1008 last week in the National Air Rifle League. North Mesquite AJROTC finishes the season in first place overall and first place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They finished the season with a 6 - 0 record. North Mesquite AJROTC was led by, Bradley Srader who shot a 271. The remaining contributing members were Nathalie Rios, Jorge Perez, and Adriana Robles. North Mesquite AJROTC is from Mesquite, TX, and is coached by Eric Schmidt.
Snapping a four game win streak Ridge Community AJROTC finished the season with a 5 - 1 record. They finishes the season in fifth place overall and third place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. Ridge Community AJROTC was led by, Hector Maisonet who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Alondra Rodriguez, Brandon Rivera, and Rudy Locklear. Ridge Community AJROTC is from Davenport, FL, and is coached by John Durocher.
Next up North Mesquite AJROTC will compete against Stewarts Creek AJROTC from Smyrna, TN. Stewarts Creek AJROTC currently has a 5 - 0 record. While Ridge Community AJROTC will compete against C. T. Johnson AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 4 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
