Georgia Competitive Shooters defeats Robinson High School
Georgia Competitive Shooters defeated Robinson High School 1560 to 1513 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their sixth win in a row. Georgia Competitive Shooters finishes the regular season in second place overall and first place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They finished the season with a 6 - 1 record. Georgia Competitive Shooters was led by, Molly McGhin who shot a 397. The remaining contributing members were Anusha Pakkam, Addy Burrow, and Gabby Morrow. Georgia Competitive Shooters is from Griffin, GA, and is coached by Lisa Kelley.
Robinson High School finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record. They finishes the season in third place overall and second place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Robinson High School was led by, Scott Patterson who shot a 382. The remaining contributing members were Jack Kersey, Grace Cason, and Stefan Arseneau. Robinson High School is from FAIRFAX, VA, and is coached by Jeffrey Nolan.
Both Georgia Competitive Shooters and Robinson High School will advance to the Championship Tournament. Georgia Competitive Shooters as the number two seed. Their quarter-final match up is against Columbus High School who has a 4 - 3 record this season. Robinson High School is the number three seed, and they will take on Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club who has a 3 - 4 record. The Championship Tournament starts next week on 26 November 2018.
These two teams are competing in the Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the conference. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
