Shawnee Mission North NJROTC defeats Cowley County 4-H
Shooting their highest score of the season Shawnee Mission North NJROTC defeated Cowley County 4-H 991 to 901 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Shawnee Mission North NJROTC is in ninth place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 3 record. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC was led by, Hope Klassen who shot a 258. The remaining contributing members were Colin Crabtree, Cole Erdmann, and Sam Smith. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC is from Shawnee Mission, KS, and is coached by Greg Ruminer.
Cowley County 4-H currently has a 3 - 2 record. After the loss they are in eighth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. Shooting their highest team score of the season Cowley County 4-H was led by, Stetson Shook who shot a 244. The remaining contributing members were Emily Mill, McKenzie Deal, and Titus Mill. Cowley County 4-H is from Winfield, KS, and is coached by AustinWaite.
Next up Shawnee Mission North NJROTC will compete against Joliet West AJROTC from Joliet, IL. Joliet West AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. While Cowley County 4-H will compete against Pebble Hills NJROTC from El Paso, TX. Pebble Hills NJROTC currently has a 1 - 4 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
