Ridge Community AJROTC Narrowly Defeats C. T. Johnson AJROTC
Ridge Community AJROTC edged out C. T. Johnson AJROTC 1010 to 1002 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. With the win, Ridge Community AJROTC is in fifth place overall and third place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 5 - 0 record. Ridge Community AJROTC was led by, Alondra Rodriguez who shot a 265. The remaining contributing members were Hector Maisonet, Brandon Rivera, and Rudy Locklear. Ridge Community AJROTC is from Davenport, FL, and is coached by John Durocher.
C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. After the loss they are in ninth place overall and sixth place within their 'Army Jrotc' conference. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by, Ian Zinsmeister who shot a 259. The remaining contributing members were Kristen Crawford, Samantha Lippolis, and Paul Mankewitz. C. T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
Next up Ridge Community AJROTC will compete against North Mesquite AJROTC from Mesquite, TX. North Mesquite AJROTC currently has a 5 - 0 record. While C. T. Johnson AJROTC will compete against Joliet Central AJROTC from Joliet, IL. Joliet Central AJROTC currently has a 3 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
