Cowley County 4-H defeats Waller AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Cowley County 4-H defeated Waller AFJROTC 895 to 695 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Cowley County 4-H is in ninth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' conference. They currently have a 2 - 1 record. Cowley County 4-H was led by Stetson Shook who shot a 254. The remaining contributing members were McKenzie Deal, Emily Mill, and Titus Mill. Cowley County 4-H is from Winfield, KS, and is coached by AustinWaite.
Waller AFJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record. Shooting their highest team score of the season Waller AFJROTC was led by Logan Robertson who shot a 194. The remaining contributing members were William Capt, Vanessa Martinez, and Seth Cortez. Waller AFJROTC is from Waller, TX, and is coached by Lt Col Byrl Engel.
Next up Cowley County 4-H will compete against Boonslick AJROTC from Boonville, MO. Boonslick AJROTC currently has a 3 - 0 record. While Waller AFJROTC has a bye week.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
