Lake Houston 4-H Narrowly Defeats Shawnee Mission North NJROTC
Lake Houston 4-H edged out Shawnee Mission North NJROTC 926 to 920 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Lake Houston 4-H is in fourth place within their 'Junior Rifle Club' division. They currently have a 1 - 0 record. Lake Houston 4-H was led by Kayla Ressler who shot a 251. The remaining contributing members were Carissa Wallace, Alyssa Ward, and Abigail Weed. Lake Houston 4-H is from Kingwood, TX, and is coached by Steven Schammel.
Shawnee Mission North NJROTC currently has a 0 - 1 record. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC was led by Jordyn Kelley who shot a 242. The remaining contributing members were Hope Klassen, Jacob Rogers, and Colin Crabtree. Shawnee Mission North NJROTC is from Shawnee Mission, KS, and is coached by Greg Ruminer.
Next up Lake Houston 4-H will compete against Harold L. Richards NJROTC from Oak Lawn, IL. Harold L. Richards NJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record. While Shawnee Mission North NJROTC will compete against Norview NJROTC from Norfolk, VA. Norview NJROTC currently has a 1 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
