Bend of the River Defeats Candler County 4-H
In an undisputed contest, shooting their highest score this season, 1894.5 points, Bend of the River defeated Candler County 4-H. Their second win in a row, Bend of the River is in first place in their Division with a 2 - 0 record. Bend of the River was led by Landon Smith who shot a 386.3. The remaining contributing members were Colton Smith, Aliyah Carr, Trent Phann, and Eli Rich. Bend of the River is from Cookeville, TN, and is coached by Charles Pardue.
Candler County 4-H dropped to 0 - 2 on the season. They are currently in eighth place in their Division. Candler County 4-H is from Metter, GA, and is coached by Angie Daultry.
Next up Bend of the River will compete against Gwinnett Shooting Sports from Sugar Hill, GA. Gwinnett Shooting Sports currently has a 2 - 0 record. Candler County 4-H will compete against Morgan County 4-H from Madison, GA. Morgan County 4-H currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is scored with tenth of a ring accuracy and worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
