Lyon County 4-H defeats Buffalo County 4-H

Shooting their highest score of the season Lyon County 4-H defeated Buffalo County 4-H 1847.1 to 1782.6 last week in the National BB Gun League. With the win, Lyon County 4-H is in fourth place in their Division with a 1 - 1 record. Lyon County 4-H was led by Karalyn Karjala who shot a 392.0. The remaining contributing members were Garland Hanlin, Ava Karcher, Landon Dody, and Jonas Kern. Lyon County 4-H is from Emporia, KS, and is coached by Trenna Hanlin.

Buffalo County 4-H dropped to 0 - 2 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Buffalo County 4-H was led by Bryana Royle who shot a 374.6. The remaining contributing members were Evan Kinneson, Luke Olson, Zach Olson, and Carlee Mashek. Buffalo County 4-H is from Kearney, NE, and is coached by Kevin Taylor.

Next up Lyon County 4-H will compete against Gwinnett Shooting Sports from Sugar Hill, GA. Gwinnett Shooting Sports currently has a 2 - 0 record. Buffalo County 4-H will compete against Morgan County 4-H from Madison, GA. Morgan County 4-H currently has a 1 - 1 record.

These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.

BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is scored with tenth of a ring accuracy and worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
