C. T. Johnson AJROTC Upsets Seneca Valley AJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season C. T. Johnson AJROTC upset Seneca Valley AJROTC 1004 to 915 last week in the National Air Rifle League. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was able to win despite averaging 7 points lower than Seneca Valley AJROTC coming into this game.

C. T. Johnson AJROTC finishes the season in fourth place in their Division with a 4 - 3 record. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by Nicholas Thacker who shot a 255. The remaining contributing members were Jonathan Alexander, Roman La Haye, and Isabella Rios. C. T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.

Seneca Valley AJROTC dropped to 2 - 5 on the season. They finish the season in fifth place in their Division. Seneca Valley AJROTC was led by Andrew Tate who shot a 244. The remaining contributing members were Mackenna Omara, Caitlin Wroblewski, and Katelynn Grochalski. Seneca Valley AJROTC is from Harmony, PA, and is coached by 1SG Angelo Lettiere.

These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Governors Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
