Lyon County 4-H defeats Bend of the River
Shooting their highest score of the season Lyon County 4-H defeated Bend of the River 1802 to 1743 last week in the National BB Gun League. With the win, Lyon County 4-H is in fourth place in their Division with a 1 - 1 record. Lyon County 4-H was led by Garland Hanlin who shot a 369. The remaining contributing members were Karalyn Karjala, Jarrett Botkin, Dayne Witherspoon, and Logan Thomas. Lyon County 4-H is from Emporia, KS, and is coached by Trenna Hanlin.
Bend of the River dropped to 1 - 2 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Bend of the River was led by Colton Smith who shot a 359. The remaining contributing members were Landon Smith, Trent Phann, Cora Beth Curd, and Mallory Johnson. Bend of the River is from Cookeville, TN, and is coached by Charles Pardue.
Next up Lyon County 4-H will compete against Gwinnett County 4-H from Sugar Hill, GA. Gwinnett County 4-H currently has a 1 - 1 record. Bend of the River will compete against Lake Houston 4-H from Kingwood, TX. Lake Houston 4-H currently has a 3 - 0 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
