Ward County 4-H Defeats TAG Team
In an undisputed contest, shooting their highest score this season, 657 points, Ward County 4-H defeated TAG Team. With the win, Ward County 4-H is in fourth place in their Division with a 1 - 1 record. Ward County 4-H was led by Trinity Reyes who shot a 175. The remaining contributing members were Draven Duncan, Tyler Slaton, and Cameron Breeding. Ward County 4-H is from Monahans, TX, and is coached by Marc Fuentes.
TAG Team dropped to 0 - 2 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. TAG Team is from Traer, IA, and is coached by Peter Holden.
Next up Ward County 4-H will compete against Lyon County 4-H Shooting Sports from Emporia, KS. Lyon County 4-H Shooting Sports currently has a 2 - 0 record. TAG Team will compete against Bears Ears Sportsman Club from Craig, CO. Bears Ears Sportsman Club currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Elite Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
