W. H. Page NJROTC defeats Hoke County AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season W. H. Page NJROTC defeated Hoke County AJROTC 1036.1 to 818.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. With the win, W. H. Page NJROTC is in fourth place overall and first place within their 'Navy Jrotc' conference. They currently have a 2 - 0 record. W. H. Page NJROTC was led by, Emilyrose Sheffield who shot a 269.9. The remaining contributing members were Nicholas Waegerle, Makenna Wilson, and Emma Senneville. W. H. Page NJROTC is from Greensboro, NC, and is coached by David Buchholz.
Hoke County AJROTC currently has a 0 - 2 record. Shooting their highest team score of the season Hoke County AJROTC was led by, Savanna Boettge who shot a 232.4. The remaining contributing members were Xavier Scott, Samuel Locklear, and Davian McLean-Kershaw. Hoke County AJROTC is from Raeford, NC, and is coached by Harold Thacker.
Next up W. H. Page NJROTC will compete against Grossmont NJROTC from El Cajon, CA. Grossmont NJROTC currently has a 2 - 0 record. While Hoke County AJROTC will compete against Franklin Parish AJROTC from Winnsboro, LA. Franklin Parish AJROTC currently has a 0 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by a single game Conference Title Game for the top two teams in each conference.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
