Walton County 4-H defeats Pierre Jr Shooters
Shooting their highest score of the season Walton County 4-H defeated Pierre Jr Shooters 2012.6 to 1990.0 last week in the National BB Gun League. Their fourth win in a row, Walton County 4-H is in first place in their Division with a 4 - 0 record. Walton County 4-H was led by Emily Goitia who shot a 405.7. The remaining contributing members were Jordan Smothers, Jackson Davis, Tony Stacy, and Mason Harper. Walton County 4-H is from Monroe, GA, and is coached by William Carlan.
Snapping a two game win streak Pierre Jr Shooters dropped to 2 - 1 on the season. They are currently in second place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Pierre Jr Shooters was led by Justin Merriman who shot a 408.4. The remaining contributing members were Alee Smith, Jenna Kruger, Jessica Hays, and Wyatt Rose. Pierre Jr Shooters is from Pierre, SD, and is coached by Sean Kruger.
Next up Walton County 4-H will compete against Lake County Aces from Madison, SD. Lake County Aces currently has a 2 - 2 record. Pierre Jr Shooters will compete against Homestead 4-H from Beatrice, NE. Homestead 4-H currently has a 1 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Champions Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The Champions Division is comprised of the top teams in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is scored with tenth of a ring accuracy and worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
