R-S Central MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats Nation Ford MCJROTC
R-S Central MCJROTC edged out Nation Ford MCJROTC 1077 to 1076 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, R-S Central MCJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 4 - 2 record. R-S Central MCJROTC was led by Cheyenne Downey who shot a 275. The remaining contributing members were Christina Murphy, Victoria Wiles, and Emily Williams. R-S Central MCJROTC is from Rutherfordton, NC, and is coached by Maj CJ Brown.
Snapping a four game win streak Nation Ford MCJROTC dropped to 4 - 2 on the season. They are currently in second place in their Division. Nation Ford MCJROTC was led by Deonte Hayes who shot a 280. The remaining contributing members were Sarah Leininger, Jordyn Brooks, and Preston Jaeger. Nation Ford MCJROTC is from Fort Mill, SC, and is coached by Sean Mulcahy.
Next up R-S Central MCJROTC will compete against Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC from Albuquerque, NM. Atrisco Heritage Academy MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record. Nation Ford MCJROTC will compete against La Cueva MCJROTC from Albuquerque, NM. La Cueva MCJROTC currently has a 0 - 6 record.
These two teams are competing in the Marine Corps JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
