Lake Houston 4-H Narrowly Defeats Bend of the River
Lake Houston 4-H edged out Bend of the River 1802 to 1790 last week in the National BB Gun League. Their fourth win in a row, Lake Houston 4-H is in first place in their Division with a 4 - 0 record. Lake Houston 4-H was led by Carissa Wallace who shot a 370. The remaining contributing members were Ainsley Day, Mitchell Weatherford, Kayla Ressler, and Chance Stephens. Lake Houston 4-H is from Kingwood, TX, and is coached by Steven Schammel.
Bend of the River dropped to 1 - 3 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Bend of the River was led by Landon Smith who shot a 364. The remaining contributing members were Blake Shepherd, Austin Dallas, Taylor Phann, and Trent Phann. Bend of the River is from Cookeville, TN, and is coached by Charles Pardue.
Next up Lake Houston 4-H will compete against Gwinnett County 4-H from Sugar Hill, GA. Gwinnett County 4-H currently has a 1 - 2 record. Bend of the River will compete against Middletown Marksmen from Middletown, PA. Middletown Marksmen currently has a 2 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Distinguished Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
