Gallatin NJROTC defeats Onate NJROTC
Gallatin NJROTC defeated Onate NJROTC 941 to 897 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, Gallatin NJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 5 - 1 record. Gallatin NJROTC was led by Tristen Stokes who shot a 251. The remaining contributing members were Christian Blizzard, John Parks, and Alex Lame. Gallatin NJROTC is from Gallatin, TN, and is coached by Duff Thompson.
Onate NJROTC dropped to 4 - 2 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Onate NJROTC was led by Izabell Homer who shot a 253. The remaining contributing members were Crystal Parra, Angel Day , and Sariah Salas. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Robert Rodriguez.

These two teams are competing in the Navy JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
