McDowell NJROTC defeats El Camino Real NJROTC
McDowell NJROTC defeated El Camino Real NJROTC 953 to 796 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their sixth win in a row, McDowell NJROTC is in first place in their Division with a 6 - 0 record. McDowell NJROTC was led by ZACHARY JAYNES who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were ANDREW ROUSE, SETH BURNETTE, and LUCAS HENNESSEY. McDowell NJROTC is from Marion, NC, and is coached by Steven Ross.
Snapping a three game win streak El Camino Real NJROTC dropped to 3 - 3 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. El Camino Real NJROTC was led by Naomy Soo Hoo who shot a 215. The remaining contributing members were Romona Dong, Melody Soo Hoo, and Jacob Akopnik. El Camino Real NJROTC is from Woodland Hills, CA, and is coached by Michael Consoletti.
Next up McDowell NJROTC will compete against Liberty NJROTC from Renton, WA. Liberty NJROTC currently has a 0 - 6 record. El Camino Real NJROTC will compete against Easley NJROTC from Easley, SC. Easley NJROTC currently has a 5 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Navy JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
