Ramona NJROTC Upsets Cross Creek NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Ramona NJROTC upset Cross Creek NJROTC last week in the National Air Rifle League. Both teams scored 1063 points. By rule, the tie was settled though by highest number of "inner tens." Ramona NJROTC won the tie 25 to 24. Ramona NJROTC was able to win despite averaging 9 points lower than Cross Creek NJROTC coming into this game.
With the win, Ramona NJROTC is in fourth place in their Division with a 1 - 1 record. Ramona NJROTC was led by Joseph Schultz who shot a 275. The remaining contributing members were Marisa Houry, Hailey Henshaw, and Nicole Lewis. Ramona NJROTC is from Ramona, CA, and is coached by CPO Bob Richardson.
Cross Creek NJROTC dropped to 1 - 1 on the season. They are currently in third place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Cross Creek NJROTC was led by Nicki Rowe who shot a 272. The remaining contributing members were Nina Rhodes, Ilea Smalley, and Marvin Pell. Cross Creek NJROTC is from Augusta, GA, and is coached by Jonathan Shaw.

These two teams are competing in the Navy JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
