Maspenock Rod and Gun Club Narrowly Defeats Robinson High School
Maspenock Rod and Gun Club edged out Robinson High School 1505 to 1490 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Maspenock Rod and Gun Club is in third place in their Division with a 3 - 2 record. Maspenock Rod and Gun Club was led by BRENDAN SEITZ who shot a 379. The remaining contributing members were RIO FERGUSON, ZUZU DEMETRIUS, and KRISTINE PETERS. Maspenock Rod and Gun Club is from Milford, MA, and is coached by Manuel Snyderman.
Robinson High School dropped to 2 - 3 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Robinson High School was led by Max Brabston who shot a 377. The remaining contributing members were Emily Fisher, Alison Chapman, and David Linkh. Robinson High School is from Fairfax, VA, and is coached by Robert Hardy.
Next up Maspenock Rod and Gun Club will compete against Massachusetts Rifle Association from Woburn, MA. Massachusetts Rifle Association currently has a 1 - 4 record. Robinson High School will compete against Bridgeport Rifle Club from Stratford, CT. Bridgeport Rifle Club currently has a 4 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
