Georgia Competitive Shooters defeats Queen Anne Marksmanship
Shooting their highest score of the season Georgia Competitive Shooters defeated Queen Anne Marksmanship 1534 to 1501 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row, Georgia Competitive Shooters is in first place in their Division with a 4 - 0 record. Georgia Competitive Shooters was led by Addy Burrow who shot a 389. The remaining contributing members were Molly McGhin, Leah Martin, and Sam Payne. Georgia Competitive Shooters is from Griffin, GA, and is coached by Lisa Kelley.
Queen Anne Marksmanship dropped to 2 - 2 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Queen Anne Marksmanship was led by Matt Dorey who shot a 385. The remaining contributing members were Erin Walsh, Nick Dorey, and Mason Mackenzie. Queen Anne Marksmanship is from Rhodesdale, MD, and is coached by Penny Austin-Richardson.
Next up Georgia Competitive Shooters will compete against Home of Champions Junior Club from Ft. Benning, GA. Home of Champions Junior Club currently has a 0 - 4 record. Queen Anne Marksmanship will compete against Lake Region Shooting Sports from Devils Lake, ND. Lake Region Shooting Sports currently has a 2 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
