Ozark AJROTC defeats Henderson County AJROTC
In the first of two semifinal games in the Orion National Air Rifle Sporter League Tournament, Ozark AJROTC edged Henderson County AJROTC by 2 points. Ozark AJROTC needed a season high 1111 to beat their Army JROTC peer. Henderson County AJROTC, remarkable, also shot their best score of the season with an 1109.
Ozark AJROTC was led by Josiah Custer who shot a 278. The remaining contributing members were Kierstyn Olinger, Kaya Hauser, Elizabeth Vigneaux, and Hayden Steelman. Ozark AJROTC is from Ozark, MO, and is coached by Terry Thompson.
Henderson County AJROTC was led by Landon Nelson who shot a sensational 287. The remaining contributing members were Aaron Teeter, Kayla Gabhart, Trevor Owens, and Cindy Gilbert. Henderson County AJROTC is from Henderson, KY, and is coached by Victor Rosentreter.
To put the scores of this game into perspective, namely how good the scores were, the Army JROTC team national record is 1090. Both of these teams out shot the national record by nearly 20 points. As this was not a sanctioned event, and the format of the game used the "best-four-count teams" rule, these scores do not count towards the national record. Regardless, the achievement of both teams is self-evident!
Henderson County AJROTC season will come to a close, but only after finishing with an impressive 9 - 2 record, and a second place finish in the Army JROTC Champions division.
Ozark AJROTC season continues next week in the Orion National Air Rifle Sporter League Championship game. They will take on the winner of Gulfport MCJROTC and R-S Central MCJROTC.
