Round Rock MCJROTC Narrowly Defeats St Pauls AJROTC
Round Rock MCJROTC edged out St Pauls AJROTC 1062.3 to 1054.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row. Round Rock MCJROTC was led by Isabella Baker who shot a 273.0. The remaining contributing members were Riley Hudson, Addison Blair, and Caroline Garcia. They are from Round Rock, TX, and are coached by Thomas Olmeda.
Round Rock MCJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in fifth place. Within the Marine Corps Jrotc Conference they finish in second place. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season Round Rock MCJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Champions Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season. To complete their qualification, they must still shoot a 1035 or higher in a sanctioned competition within the next year.
Shooting their highest team score of the season St Pauls AJROTC was led by Barbara Bravo who shot a 273.1. The remaining contributing members were Ethan Little, Ingrid Banos, and Ashley Real. St Pauls AJROTC is from St Pauls, NC, and is coached by 1SG John Gillespie.
St Pauls AJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they finish the regular season in nineteenth place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
