South Effingham NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Moberly AJROTC
South Effingham NJROTC edged out Moberly AJROTC 1090.6 to 1087.3 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fifth win in a row. South Effingham NJROTC was led by Alexandra Littlejohn who shot a 275.8. The remaining contributing members were Andrew Haldenwang, Asa Alderman, and Cameron Bedford. They are from Guyton, GA, and are coached by Terry Stautberg.
South Effingham NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in eleventh place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they finish in fourth place. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season South Effingham NJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Champions Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season. To complete their qualification, they must still shoot a 1035 or higher in a sanctioned competition within the next year.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Moberly AJROTC was led by Joseph Gibbs who shot a 279.9. The remaining contributing members were Jenna Walz, Cory Cable, and MacKenzie Hopper. Moberly AJROTC is from Moberly, MO, and is coached by 1SG Jeff Parks.
Moberly AJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in nineteenth place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 4 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
