C. T. Johnson AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Bradley Central AJROTC
C. T. Johnson AJROTC edged out Bradley Central AJROTC 1117.7 to 1112.9 last week in the National Air Rifle League. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by Nicholas Turi who shot a 291.9. The remaining contributing members were Antonio Valdespino, Sara Mercado, and Justin Mirelez. They are from San Antonio, TX, and are coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
C. T. Johnson AJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in eighth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they finish in fourth place. They finished the regular season with a 5 - 2 record.
The cut scores for next season are still unofficial, however thanks to their performance this season C. T. Johnson AJROTC preliminarily qualifies for the Champions Division in the 2023 National Air Rifle League Season. To complete their qualification, they must still shoot a 1035 or higher in a sanctioned competition within the next year.
Bradley Central AJROTC was led by Calwyn Watson who shot a 288.4. The remaining contributing members were Susie Asble, Jason Sealy, and Pyper Reynolds. Bradley Central AJROTC is from Cleveland, TN, and is coached by Chris Ingle.
Bradley Central AJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in seventh place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they finish in third place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
