Northwood AJROTC Narrowly Defeats Redmond MCJROTC
Northwood AJROTC edged out Redmond MCJROTC 956.3 to 939.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Northwood AJROTC was led by Rylee Beldin who shot a 262.6. The remaining contributing members were Mada Morgan, Deveign Dubose, and Darius Chargois. They are from Shreveport, LA, and are coached by LTC Byron Lafield.
Northwood AJROTC is competing in the Elite Division where they are currently ranked in seventh place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in fifth place. They have a 3 - 3 record.
Snapping a thre game win streak Redmond MCJROTC was led by Simeon Lovric who shot a 261.2. The remaining contributing members were Dolores Lopez, Chase Gottfried, and Callan Mcnee. Redmond MCJROTC is from Redmond, OR, and is coached by Doug Seal.
Redmond MCJROTC is also competing in the Elite Division where they are currently ranked in fourth place. They have a 3 - 3 record.
Next up Northwood AJROTC will compete against Warren Central MCJROTC from Indianapolis, IN. Warren Central MCJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record. While Redmond MCJROTC will compete against Sparkman AJROTC from Harvest, AL. Sparkman AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
