South Effingham NJROTC Narrowly Defeats Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club
South Effingham NJROTC edged out Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club 1097.6 to 1087.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. South Effingham NJROTC was led by Asa Alderman who shot a 282.4. The remaining contributing members were Ryton Ekern, Cameron Bedford, and Andrew Haldenwang. They are from Guyton, GA, and are coached by Terry Stautberg.
South Effingham NJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in twelfth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in fourth place. They have a 4 - 2 record.
Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club was led by Samantha Seagle who shot a 278.9. The remaining contributing members were Lexi Strand, Samantha Erick, and Noble Richter. Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club is from Manassas, VA, and is coached by Alan Lerch.
Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in fourteenth place. They have a 3 - 3 record.
Next up South Effingham NJROTC will compete against Moberly AJROTC from Moberly, MO. Moberly AJROTC currently has a 3 - 3 record. While Trigger Time 4-H Shooting Education Club will compete against Norview NJROTC from Norfolk, VA. Norview NJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
