Summerlin Academy AJROTC defeats Northwood AJROTC
Summerlin Academy AJROTC defeated Northwood AJROTC 1089.1 to 983.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row. Summerlin Academy AJROTC was led by Alondra Diaz who shot a 281.2. The remaining contributing members were Keegan Salm, Abigail Ramirez-Martinez, and Hendrix Adams. They are from Bartow, FL, and are coached by Lamonte Munns.
Summerlin Academy AJROTC is competing in the Elite Division where they are currently ranked in first place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in first place. They have a 5 - 0 record.
Northwood AJROTC was led by Rylee Beldin who shot a 276.0. The remaining contributing members were Mada Morgan, Deveign Dubose, and Darius Chargois. Northwood AJROTC is from Shreveport, LA, and is coached by LTC Byron Lafield.
Northwood AJROTC is also competing in the Elite Division where they are currently ranked in sixth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in fourth place. They have a 2 - 3 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
