South Brunswick AJROTC defeats Grove City NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season South Brunswick AJROTC defeated Grove City NJROTC 1042.8 to 940.5 last week in the National Air Rifle League. South Brunswick AJROTC was led by Jayvon Hayles who shot a 280.7. The remaining contributing members were Juan Ramos, Geoffrey Schoo, and Jackson Scott. They are from Southport, NC, and are coached by Glenn Baker.
South Brunswick AJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in sixteenth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in fifth place. They have a 2 - 2 record.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Grove City NJROTC was led by Jade Miller who shot a 241.3. The remaining contributing members were Zane Yost, Shelby Shaffer, and Leo Yoder. Grove City NJROTC is from Grove City, and is coached by Dustin Martin.
Grove City NJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in thirty-seventh place. They have a 1 - 3 record.
This coming week South Brunswick AJROTC has a bye week. While Grove City NJROTC will compete against Grossmont NJROTC from El Cajon, CA. Grossmont NJROTC currently has a 2 - 2 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
