Guthrie JROTC defeats Mayfield AFJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Guthrie JROTC defeated Mayfield AFJROTC 1723.5 to 1595.2 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Guthrie JROTC was led by Aidin Edmondson who shot a 494.7. The remaining contributing members were Brandon Willis, Tyler Powell, and Hayden Craig. They are from Guthrie, OK, and are coached by Kyle Brede.
Guthrie JROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in tenth place. Within the Jrotc Conference they are in seventh place. They have a 1 - 1 record.
Mayfield AFJROTC was led by Peter Vasquez who shot a 567.1. The remaining contributing members were Jackson Grimes, Zacharia Sanchez, and Val Bigger. Mayfield AFJROTC is from Las Cruces, NM, and is coached by Val Bigger.
Mayfield AFJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in eighth place. Within the Jrotc Conference they are in fifth place. They have a 1 - 2 record.

Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is nearly identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 60 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
