Milton NJROTC defeats Northview NJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Milton NJROTC defeated Northview NJROTC 1003.3 to 842.1 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. Milton NJROTC was led by Alexsamder Paiden who shot a 258.8. The remaining contributing members were Rianna Walker, Skyler Harris, and Mason Maxsom. They are from Milton, FL, and are coached by Rob Fernandez.
Milton NJROTC is competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in twenty-second place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in fifth place. They have a 3 - 0 record.
Northview NJROTC was led by Nathaniel Decker who shot a 248.3. The remaining contributing members were Kate Stinson, Damon McDuffie, and William Nowlin. Northview NJROTC is from Bratt, FL, and is coached by Jeff Simpkins Shane Ahalt.
Northview NJROTC is also competing in the Distinguished Division where they are currently ranked in forty-eighth place. Within the Navy Jrotc Conference they are in tenth place. They have a 1 - 1 record.
Next up Milton NJROTC will compete against Ball AJROTC from Galveston, TX. Ball AJROTC currently has a 0 - 3 record. While Northview NJROTC will compete against West AJROTC from Denver, CO. West AJROTC currently has a 2 - 1 record.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
