C. T. Johnson AJROTC defeats Missouri Military Academy
Shooting their highest score of the season C. T. Johnson AJROTC defeated Missouri Military Academy 1109.7 to 1056.6 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by Sara Mercado who shot a 284.3. The remaining contributing members were Nicholas Turi, Macen Dunderdale, and Antonio Valdespino. They are from San Antonio, TX, and are coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
C. T. Johnson AJROTC is competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in seventh place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in third place. They have a 3 - 0 record.
Shooting their highest team score of the season Missouri Military Academy was led by Marco Afane who shot a 275.2. The remaining contributing members were (Required) Hines, Blake Morais, and Zijie Zhou. Missouri Military Academy is from Mexico, MO, and is coached by Joseph Balvanz.
Missouri Military Academy is also competing in the Champions Division where they are currently ranked in twentieth place. Within the Army Jrotc Conference they are in sixth place. They have a 1 - 2 record.
Next up C. T. Johnson AJROTC will compete against Smith Station MCJROTC from Smith Station, AL. Smith Station MCJROTC currently has a 0 - 3 record. While Missouri Military Academy has a bye week.
Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
The Distinguished Division are the second tiered teams, followed by the Elite Division.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
